DIG Silwal again moves SC against IGP appointment

Kathmandu, April 11:Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Nawaraj Silwal has again moved the Supreme Court (SC), challenging the new appointment of Inspector General of Police (IGP).
DIG Silwal today reached the apex court to file a writ petition against the government’s Monday decision to appoint Prakash Aryal to the post of Nepal Police chief.
In a writ that named the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Home Affairs as defendants, DIG Silwal argued that the appointment was non-legal as he secured 263 points against 262 points obtained by newly appointed IGP Aryal in the work performance evaluation of four years and he not Aryal deserved the legal right to head the Nepal Police.
Silwal demanded in the writ that the Monday decision of the Council of Ministers to promote Aryal as the new IGP should be scrapped so as to appoint him to the post.
Prior to this, the government had appointed Jay Bahadur Chand as the IGP, prompting Silwal to challenge the appointment in the court. In its response to a writ filed against the appointment of Chand, the SC issued a verdict in the name of the government to make the appointment of a new police chief on a basis of work performance evaluation.
